Sweet success as charity benefits

Shotley Rose customers raised £1,460 for Alzheimer and dementia charities as they tucked into Prosecco, pudding, more pudding and more Prosecco.

Organised by Heather Chaplin regulars at the Rose enjoyed a sweet and bubbly evening with a quiz and raffle and lots of desserts and bubbles.

Top chefs Mike and Pauline Mulvhill, helped by Pauline's students from Year 11 at Holbrook Academy, served up a treat with blackberry and sloe gin jelly topped with apple crumble ice cream, rhubarb and polenta cake, passion fruit cheesecake, iced madeleines with Cointreau infused oranges, chocolate grenache tart, bread and butter banana pudding, and lemon and Prosecco syllabub puddings, all helped down with Prosecco served by Sarah and Donna at a packed pub.

Smiling Sarah Scoops Shotley Community Award

Landlady Sarah 'Bombay' Pallant was presented with a community award at the Shotley Annual Meeting on Thursday (May 30) for her contribution to a range of good causes.

As well as being an all-rounder in the Rose pub, pulling a mean pint, cooking in the kitchen or managing a top team, Sarah has helped raise thousands of pounds supporting a number of charities and good causes, including the Blossom Appeal, Kidzone, First Responders and Somersham ward. Each year at Easter Sarah and her mum donate the chocolate eggs for the much-loved Easter Egg Hunt.

Don't be slow on the uptake - Shabby Chic clocks with prices from £4.95 - £35.95 - you won't get wound up

Takeaway fish 'n' chips now available Tuesday - Saturday

Thank you for a delicious meal at the Shotley Rose. We were made to feel extremely welcome, very friendly service with a smile. I was very surprised to see the large dining area after enjoying a drink with the locals and their dogs in the snug room. The bartender was jovial and happy to share his humour around! I have to say, the fish and chips were amazing! My daughter and I came 'back home' from Germany on holiday and were delighted to be served a massive piece of fresh haddock and PROPER chips ( Also a big thank you to our host and tour guide,Derek from Shotley Peninsula Tours, during our visit to Shotley!

Two bars, one with dogs in and the other for children, very clean and the food was good and reasonably priced and beer at a decent price. George D, Shotley

Very Friendly and welcoming pub. Excellent reasonably priced food, with at least one real ale on offer. Paul G, Ipswich
Good, traditional local pub with any piped music. Cheapest pub for miles, worth going as far as Shotley for, with great fish and chips. Jim and Wendy, Chelmo
